Trenitalia S.p.A. is 100% owned by Ferrovie dello Stato S.p.A., 100% owned by Italian Treasure Ministry. Trenitalia is responsible for the management of the following transport services: long-way passengers, regional transport and freight transport. It consists of three transport Divisions: Divisione Passeggeri long-haul (Passengers Division), Divisione Passeggeri Regionale (Regional Transport Division), and Divisione Cargo (Cargo Division). With about 46.2 billion of passengers-km and 22.3 billion of tons-km per year and a fleet of 55,000 units, Trenitalia is one of the major European railways company. For research and certification activities, Trenitalia implements a well-equipped centre able to realize field and tests on a complete vehicles and on the main sub-components. Trenitalia received the following certifications: ISO 20000 for the management of Information Technology services; ISO EN 9001:2000 certified quality systems; ISO 14001, which establishes the requirements for an Environmental Management System; BS OHSAS 18001 on Health and Safety of Workers. As part of Ferrovie dello Stato S.p.A., Trenitalia is also one of the Founders of Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking.
